N-CBZ protection of S-methyl cystein
« on: March 07, 2022, 11:46:00 AM »
Greetings to everyone here.

I have struggled in making N-CBZ protection of S-methyl cysteine.
Does anyone have a trick for this reaction?
I used a 2M aqueous NaOH solution of S-methyl cysteine and dropwise addition of CBZcl at 0 degrees which did not work. Please I need your help.
Thank you in advance

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Have a nice one.

I have used NaHCO3/H2O/EtOAc for other amino acids, you need to be carefull with the workup, its a polar product. This is standard procedure so you should be able to find a procedure in the literature. Its 30 years since I did this so maybe I remember wrong.
