Completing a sodium hydrogen carbonate (bicarb soda) decomposition experiment for school to get the empirical formula.
Need help with
making some (2-3) modifications to this experiment. Thinking about changing the temps to prove a reliable relationship between heat + faster rates of decomposition. Any ideas appreciated.
Method will be this:
- 1. Empirical formula
Aim: To Calculate the Empirical Formula of Sodium hydrogen carbonate
Equipment: Scales Bicarb soda heat proof plate Oven spoon
Method: 1. Set the oven at 200oC.
2. weigh the plate and record the mass.
3. Add about 15g bicarb soda (sodium hydrogen carbonate) to the plate and record
mass.
4. Place plate in preheated oven and leave for 15 minutes.
5. Remove and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Observe the appearance of the chemical.
6. Weigh again.
Thanks
