Hi, I remember reading about a reaction that utilized a multi phase reaction using solvents that were immiscible and two reactions happening in each stage.
The method used shuttling agents to transfer the product from one reaction phase into the other phase to be used in the next step.
Does anyone know what I'm on about or can point me in the direction of this topic?

Are you thinking of phase-transfer catalysis?  My understanding of phase-transfer catalysis is that only one reaction is occurring; therefore, you may be referring to something else.

You could have a phosphonium salt dissolved in a water phase and add a base, then the formed Wittig-ylide can transfer to an organic phase and react with an aldehyde dissolved in this organic phase.
