Organic chemistry
« on: March 29, 2024, 08:12:16 AM »
Is anthracene a benzenoid compound or not? May I please know the explanation to the answer also? I don't know much about benzenoid compounds either, so any pointers regarding that would also be appreciated !

I got a question in a book which asks: which of the following compounds are non benzenoid (PFA).
Fyi the answer key says the answer is (A,C)

Because isn't anthracene just three benzene rings fused together, and similarly anthracene too ? How would it make sense for it to not be benzenoid ?
Or is it something like I am confusing these given molecules with anthracene and naphthalene?
Any help would be appreciated!
