MO Theory and hybridization issues

For some reason, I'm having trouble grasping the concept behind the Molecular Orbital Theory, and consequently, am minsunderstanding bonding/antibonding. Hybridization is also an issue for me, although it has more to do with VESPR I think. This is likely too much to explain, so possibly if MOT was discussed in a new way, it may open up my eyes to other issues.

Check wiki, google for molecular orbitals - there are for sure plenty tutorials on the web.

the idea of MO-theory is that you want to approximate the MOs (electron wave functions in molecules) using addition and subtraction of AOs (atomic orbitals). instead of addition and subtraction you can use other linear combinations, too.

hybridisation is again nothing but linear combinations. but this time you use AOs of only one atom. for example: formation of an sp-hybrid orbital
