When I was at the fair today with my friend today we decided to see who can get a higher pitch in their voice. SO I decided to buy a balloon and suck down some helium.

My friend being the genius and all said that that the helium reacts with and tightens the vocal cords to make your voice have a higher pitch. Is he right about this cause I was skeptical about this.
If he is wrong tell me why cause I would love to prove him wrong

They all say the same thing.

Note what the second source says:

"While neither Helium nor Argon will damage tissue (they are both noble gases, and therefore chemically inert), they are dangerous to breathe because they displace the oxygen in the lungs"

No chemical reaction occurs.  Period.  Your friend is wrong.
