I will give you two big helpful hints.
1)http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=57.0
2)Try them your self with the knowledge you where supposed to gain over the semesters!
Then when you have a specific problem/question you can get help, not somebody to do your work for you.

The due date was actually pushed to 12.18.  And I'm not asking anyone to do it for me.  Just asking for a couple of hints or someone to steer me in the right direction.  I'm pretty sure I know the answers to b, d, and e, but not sure.  Can I use H2/Pt to break the double bond in (d)?  Thanks

ya, have you tried it?

I'll help you with one of them...

The spectroscopy problem at the bottom..

1.)  Find the degrees of unsat...  I got 6

3.)  The IR peak at 1725, what is that characteristic of?  a Carbonyl C=O stretch

So that is 1 deg of unsat, 5 more to find...

in the NMR  4H multiplet at 7.2-7.7 ppm..  What region is this...  I think it is the aromatic region.   Now that takes care of 4 deg of unsat, you gotta find one more...

Also, if you have a 4H signal in the benzene region, that means your benzene is disubstituted so now you should figure out if it is para ortho or meta substituted....
Here is a link to a page on my teachers website with some useful chemical shifts that you might want to see
http://www.asu.edu/courses/chm331/notes/spect/S12.html

Hope that helped..   let me know if your still confused

Read the forum rules:

http://www.chemicalforums.com/index.php?topic=57.0

Rule #4:

"4.) Please show that you've at least attempted the problem.  We don't mind helping you solve problems but we are ethically opposed to doing homework for you. Violators will have their topic deleted or locked."

Nobody minds helping, but it's not *really* going to help you unless you at least try the problem first. If people just regurgitate your answers, you're not going to learn anything and be screwed when exam time comes arou nd.

whoa, chill chill!!  ::)
I still remember the first time I became a member of this forum, and I also asked a homework question that was due pretty soon and  I stayed up late trying to finish everything. I remember that many members were very friendly, and very willing to help as far as going to the tedious work (at least to me) of drawing out pictures of step-by-step mechanisms to show me. Sometimes, people keep on dropping hints forcing you to go back and think again and again, but sometimes they will explain it to you and help you draw it out too. So we are all trying to help here, don't be discouraged immediately when others are telling you to show us how you have attemted, so at least we know what you know. *peace
