Chemical Reaction Question
« on: December 14, 2006, 12:36:35 PM »
Hello,
I am trying to figure out the products of a reaction between Citric Acid (C6H8O7) and Sodium Borohydride (NaBH4) in an aqueous solution. I realize that the ions of these chemicals will form in the solution but I am trying to figure out the products once the solution is boiled off. Any suggestions or ideas on the products? Thanks

NaBH4 is a reducing agent

Generally sodium borohydride isn't strong enough to reduce carboxylic acids, however.

It will react with carboxylic acids rapidly though, but it's not a reduction reaction.
