tert-Butylchlorodimethylsilane reactivity

I was just wondering if one of you could explain to me how the different products are formed when tert-Butylchlorodimethylsilane reacts with both 1-butanol and 2-butanol.


With 1-butanol, the product is dibutyl ether, and with 2-butanol the product is 2-butene.

Are you sure that you have that right?  All that should happen is generation of the TBS-protected alcohol.

Hah, I apologize.No wonder I was so confused, I was looking at the wrong number in the solutions manuel  :|


My brain is about fried. I spent about 10 minutes scratching my head about that one too.
