Ascorbic Acid's Type Of Bond
« on: December 16, 2006, 09:22:38 PM »
Hi guys I am doing my project on Ascorbic Acid(Vitamin C) and apparently I need help on explaining its type of bond. We all know that it's a molecular bond.  C6H8O6
and the structural diagram is here:

But why is it molecular? I am having trouble explaining its type of bond. Please help, thanks.

In general, if there are only non-metals in your compound, then the atoms will be bonded covalently (i.e. forming a molecular compound).  If the compound consists of both metals and non-metals, then the compound is likely ionic.
