Mass of solution
« on: January 06, 2007, 07:13:48 AM »
Hey,

Quick question:
I'm working on this heat of neutralization lab and for the calculation of the heat of reaction, I need the mass of a solution of 100mL of 0.5M HCl I used in the lab, how can I figure out the mass of the solution? In other words, what's the density of 0.5M HCl? Thanks a lot!! I was wondering if I can just assume the density is approximately 1.00 g/mL and go with that but I'd like to know the exact value for the density. Thanks!

These density tables may be of help, although you will need to convert and extrapolate. You may also try concentration calculator - trial version contains full density table of HCl and will not only help in conversion, but will also calculate exact mass of the solution (start CASC, start calculator - C icon on the toolbar, select hydrochloric acid, enter 100 mL as volume, then 0,5 as concentration, read mass of the solution right to the volume field).
ChemBuddy chemical calculators - stoichiometry, pH, concentration, buffer preparation, titrations.info
