Hello everyone! I am sorry if I am in the wrong section, but I have a question. Is it possible to have a false positive for a hair folicle test? I have never touched drugs but I have tested positive on three tests (at three different times) for cocaine! I've never done any drugs in my life. Can someone discuss this with me or point me in the direction to post this in the appropriate spot. Thank you so very much!!!

Amoxicillin (and any of its possible generic clones and derivatives) can cause false positives for cocaine. It is a common proscribed anti-biotic. If you have used this in the past, you might call the doctor that proscribed it and either get an official document stating so, or asking him about clearing up the results of the drug test (or just call the drug testing company/representative).

I am not aware of any thing else that can cause a false positive for cocaine, but it is possible; that is just the most likely candidate.

Cocaine - Substances or Conditions which can cause false positives:

- Kidney infection (kidney disease)
- Liver infection (liver disease)
- Diabetes
- Amoxicillin(As wrote enahs: some medications can cause FP for Cocaine)

In addition to my last post, a hair sample touched by someone or something that contains cocaine may produce a false-positive test result.

Also, a false-positive test result can occur in a person who inhaled the secondhand smoke of a person who smoked crack cocaine (passive drug exposure). Do you have a friend or a good friend) that smoke cocaine?

Yes, three times and no...never touched drugs. I have been around someone who smoked it in front of me. I tested three different times...the first time I tested and the second was about 2 weeks apart and then the last time I tested not quite 90 days from the first time. Then, I waited a few months and didn't test positive. I feel like I need to get to the bottom of this because something is wrong with these tests. I don't know much about drugs or drug tests. This is the first time I ever took a drug test other than for work with a urine sample which I passed. I will email you offlist and give more details. Thanks! And, thank you for the information. I am looking for answers because I am so oblivious to drugs and testing. I have never been around it until earlier this year.
