HCL + CACO3
« on: January 13, 2007, 12:09:22 PM »
Hi, I'm investigating the reaction law of the reaction between HCl (aq) and CaCo3 (s - powdered form) using different measurments:

1.) By mass loss
2.) By volume of Co2 produced
3.) By pH change

Is there any resource that say which one of the order the reaction it obeys and the best way to measure the reaction (mass, volume or pH)? Personal opinion is ok, and if possible please provide explanation.

ThanksĀ  :)

As far as best methods; this is completely dependent on the equipment available.

Sorry forgot to include the method equipment. All experiment is carried out in an openflask.:

For mass I used an eletronic weighing balance with an accuracy of around +/- 0.05g

For volume I used a 250ml graduated cylinder filled with water, where I collect the CO2 in the cylinder.

For pH I used al pH probe.

Oh and thx for the reference  :)
