Haloalkane's reaction to cyanide ion
« on: February 09, 2007, 11:41:34 PM »
Sine cyanide ion acts as a Lewis base, when it reacts with primary, secondary or tertiary halides, elimination reaction should also takes place. But why when do the equations just showing the substitution process without mentioning the elimination in my textbook? Is it just showing the part of substitution without mentioning the elimination?
