Reactivity of Alcohols

Hi all,
I'm a bit unclear about reactivity of alcohols.I know it relies on C-H & O-H covalent bonds/polarity but my book does'nt clear it fully from the electrophilic & nucleophilic perspective.Any help'd be an obligation.Thanks.

generally speaking, alcohols are moderately nucleophilic...to make them electrophilic, they must be 'activated' with an appropriate reagent
