When making dinner yesterday, I was quite stressed out, and accidentally turned on the wrong plate on the stove. Even though I live in a very small one room apartment, it took several minutes before I noticed, and when I finally did, I saw an old plastic food storage box smelting on the hotplate. Smoke was all over, and it smelled, and it took a few more minutes before I got my mind together, and got the thing away, and then cleared the plate with a big wet towel.

Now I´m concerned, because I think I´ve read somewhere that various unhealthy additives are used in plastic products, and this particular box is more than ten years old, (quite hard, but with a kind of oily touch to it), from a time, perhaps, when use of such were not regulated by the government.

The morning after I still feel kind of dizzy, and a bit raspy in my throat, but I know very well that this may be only anxiety induced.

Do I have anything to worry about? Like, dioxins, phtalates etc? Please help relieve a worried mind...

You might perhaps try to ventilate your apartment. And clean your cooking plate thoroughly just to be sure.

I don't think you should worry about this one insistent. But if your regularly exposed to such fumes, you should wear the proper equipment.

My mom did the same mistake, with her water-heater. I told her the same thing. And I bought her a new one for Christmas gift :)
No single thing abides, but all things flow.
Fragment to fragment clings, and thus they grow
Until we know and name them.
Then by degrees they change and are no more
The things we know.

Thanks for your reply!

What kind of fumes are released by "processes" like this? It probably varies from material to material, but, generally?
