Effect of pH on redox biochemistry
« on: March 17, 2009, 05:54:02 AM »
Hi, I m studying the effect of pH on redox reactions in the biosystem. I am wondering whether low pH would affect the redox equilibrium, if H+ is not directly involved in a chemical equation of a bioprocess? Coz i m interested in whether pH changes would affect the redox-regulated biomolecules.

Thx in advance.

Depends on the reaction. Even if H+ are not directly involved, concentration of active species may be pH dependent (think in terms of weak acids and bases).

pH may also affect the activity of the enzymes involved in the redox reactions.
