Production of red blood cells

How does the body produce red blood cells? Unlike the other cells in the body they do not contain a nucleus so surely they can not be produced by meiosis or by mitosis.

The process is called erythropoiesis I believe. It occurs in the bone marrow. You may want to try a web search of erythropoiesis.
