Need information on addition and condesation polymers.
« on: March 18, 2007, 10:17:11 PM »
Hello, i was searching for some information on addition and condensation polymers but came up empty, i was wonder if anyone knows a good link to where i can read about the basics of polymers, thanks!

Remember: library first, wiki/google second, ask on forums third! I find it hard to believe that you used any of these sources and you have not found anything.

i don't have access to a library close, and try searching Google and wiki, you'll find very limited and incomplete information, right now, wiki addition polymer article is 2 paragraphs, condensation article is 3 paragraphs.  i wouldn't force myself to wait on someones response unless it was absolutely necessary.

1 minute on Google:

Are you sure you tried hard?

BTW: modifying your posts may not help.

lol!, well i changed it because originally i searched wiki for addition polymer and condensation polymer, and you can see how limited those articles are, but searching wiki for polymerization gave me a better article, but honestly i did search, for about 50 minutes, but i suppose i was somewhat tired after searching for aout 6 hours for other chemistry related things!

The naming of these polymerisation reactions can be slightly different sometimes:

Addition Polymerisation: Chain Growth Polymerisation (i think you are looking specifically for Free Radical Polymerisation)
Condensation Polymerisation: Step Growth Polymerisation.

I recently wrote an essay with information on polymerisation, but it might be a little complex for high school, i'll attach it to this reply.  Polymer production starts halfway down the first page.

There's also some stuff about plasticisers at the end.
