Hi am I correct in saying an ate means it take oxygen in the compound?

If so what is nitric acid not called Nitrate acid H2NO3

ending -ate means salt (or anion) of acid containing oxygen

By the way, nitric acid is HNO3. The nitrate anion (NO3-) has a negative one charge.
