Hindenburg Fire
« on: December 18, 2004, 08:26:41 PM »
Greetings Fellow Forum Members,

A while back I posted a link to a site about the Hindenburg Fire. That link contained a new paper (at that time) that refuted the claim that the doping paint on the outer cover of the airship was the source and driving force behind the fire.
Here is the web site -
http://spot.colorado.edu/~dziadeck/zf/LZ129fire.htm
Here is the paper -

As a citizen scientist I recently did experiments which reinforced the above refutation.
They are published at this web location -
http://www.sas.org/tcs/weeklyIssues/2004-12-17/project1/index.html
Which is part of this magazine web site-

Which had a nice editorial about my paper at-
http://www.sas.org/tcs/weeklyIssues/2004-12-17/editorial/index.html
With the organizations parent site at -
http://www.sas.org/
It looks like I will be doing a poster session on this topic at this conference -

Regards,
Bill

An additional experiment you might want to try is actually constructing a balloon out of the same materials as the Hindenburg and filling it with hydrogen too. To see if this affects the rate of combustion as well.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex
