I had a redox lab a couple of days ago, and I'm supposed to turn in my lab report on Monday. I have a couple of questions that I need clearing up. Any help is appreciated!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) 3ml of 0.1M KCl + 3ml of I2. Put cork on test tube and shake. Next add chloroform.
At first the KCl and I2 combined and formed a coloured solution. After the chloroform was added it dragged the I2 out of solution, and back into elemental form.
I can't figure out why though?
2)3ml of 0.01M KMnO3 + 1ml of 1M H2SO4.
Visually nothing happens, so I can't really tell, however after adding KBr, the purple solution turns to yellow, and then after chloroform is added, the Bromide falls out of solution.
3) 3ml of 0.01M KMnO3 + H2SO4. A small piece of Cu is added.
I didn't notice and change to anything in this reaction.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Can anyone explain to my why what happens, happens in these reactions?
Any explanations?
Thanks in Advance!
