Redox half-equations

I know that oxygen acr as a oxidising agent in redox reactions, there are 2 half equations for the chemical change of oxygen. One is O2(g) changes to 2 oxide ions. But the other one is O2(g) + 2H2O(l) + 4e is changed to 4 hydroxide ions, how does that happen? Can anyone give an example for that?

half reactions can occur backwards too.

discharging of hydroxide ions to yield oxygen during electrolysis follows the reaction you mentioned:

4OH- => 2H2O + O2 + 4e
