Large spherical molecules
« on: December 29, 2006, 10:19:13 PM »
I have an interest in large molecule.  I like the spherical ones the most, but anything large is cool.  Do you guys know of any?  Any large molecule is cool though.

Proteins are large molecules or large assemblies of molecules.

Check out buckminsterfullerene, or buckyballs, they're really large and pretty interesting looking.

Polymeric materials and oligomers.
Peptides like Oxytocin.
The DNA-molecule.
Different kinds of crystals including Diamonds.
Minerals, like Opal.
Graphite.
Chlorophylls in plants.
Carbohydrates like Lignine and cellulose.
...
No single thing abides, but all things flow.
Fragment to fragment clings, and thus they grow
Until we know and name them.
Then by degrees they change and are no more
The things we know.

Buckyball  ---------------------------------
do some google search on organometallic compounds that will give very very interesting spherical molecules.
