Ksp help
« on: August 03, 2007, 10:52:07 AM »
how do you get ion concentration when you are given Ksp?

for example

What is the silver ion concentration for a saturated solution of Ag2CO3 if the Ksp = 8.4 x 10-12 for this salt?

Thanks

I dont understand if this is right or not, but i got one of the answers,

since Ag2CO3 ---> 2Ag + CO32-

so Ksp=[Ag]2[CO3]

therefore, if Ksp = 8.4x10-12 = x3??

so 3√8.4x10-12 = 2.03x10-12??

either way i dont understand this problem =\

Your math was wrong.

Look at the second question on that site. It is essentially exactly the same question.

The Ksp is a different value, and the counter ions to Ag are different, but you have two Ag in the molecule. It is worked the exact same way, but with the appropriate Ksp.

Take your time and go over all of those on that page.
