GC-MS INlet Pressure Problem
« on: August 15, 2007, 10:27:08 AM »
Hi all,

I have a problem with a 5890 series II GC where the electronic pressure program (EPP) is not working. It had been working fine, but recently it says "EPP not installed", and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what the problem is and any possible ways to fix it. This also disables the flow reading on the instrument.
Thanks

Call the 800 number. I have always had good results with this approach. (But, be nice or they may charge you.)

I did and they were less than helpful...they basically told me that my instrument was old, none of the parts were made or serviced anymore and that I'd have to look second hand to repair it, even though the engineer couldn't even tell me the exact problem

Sorry

Yea, I’ve heard that myself. Once in a while you get someone helpful.

My approach has always been to take the entire thing apart and then reassemble it. Most of the time this either reveals the problem or it simply, mysteriously fixes it.
