Dimethyl Sulfoxide as a Therapy
« on: May 25, 2007, 09:02:34 PM »
When looking at what United Nuclear had, I saw dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). It had a link to a nice article.
http://www.dmso.org/articles/information/muir.htm

To me, this sounds like it can have some very nice uses. One of the best ones I can think of is it's ability to transport some medicines across the skin.

Anybody have any thoughts/real world experience with it?

Someone I worked with used to put it on her joints to keep them in good condition, supposedly.  I don't know if it worked or not.  Another guy I work with used it to transport pain medicine to his father, who couldn't swallow without a lot of pain because of some kind of throat cancer.  He said the medicine was quite effective with the DMSO.  You just have to be super-careful that you've got new DMSO and that your hands are clean, because you can really easily transport some nasty stuff through the skin.

Hello,

I have reviewed the information for DMSO on www.dmso-use.com
and I was wondering if somebody has experienced this
medicine. Can we consider this as a common way of healing?

 Thank you.

DMSO is one of the nastiest chemicals I've dealt with, best to avoid it unless your well trained with the substance.
Most Common Suggestions I Make on the Forums.
1. Start by writing a balanced chemical equation.
2. Don't confuse thermodynamic stability with chemical reactivity.
3. Forum Supports LaTex

I rarely see that said, Mitch, but you are right, and right to point it out I reckon, its evil stuff, very handy solvent, for reactions needing a polar aprotic solvent, like the Swern oxidation, but for reactions using large quantities of reactants, which often need to be in a huge excess of solvent to reactants, mixed DMF/acetonitrile/DMSO solvents, add a few conditions like that into the equation, and you have a recipe for a very hairy reaction to watch over.
