celite and amines
« on: September 03, 2007, 11:12:56 AM »
Hi guys,

I have a problem with an experiment. I want to prepare an imine from an aldehyde and  an amine(with sodium sulfate). I read that in the end of the reaction I must use a pad of celite to filter the mixture. Do you know if the celite can absorb the unreacted amine? I have a TLC from the mixture and I see the amine before the filtration.

I don't think you'll have a problem. I've limited experience with this though - I have only done it once, I was reducing an azide with H2/Pd. My product was a secondary amine and it came through without any problems.
