Redox Titraton
« on: September 06, 2007, 09:47:14 AM »
I'm have done an experiment on bleach sample using titration method to find out the concentration of free chlorine.

ClO- (aq) + 2 H+ (aq) + 2 e- ---> Cl- (aq) + H2O (l)
ClO- (aq) + 2 H+ (aq) + 2 I- (aq) ---> I2 (aq) + Cl- (aq) + H2O (l) 2 S2032- (aq) + I2 (aq) ---> 2 I- (aq) + S4062- (aq)
mol ClO- = (1 mol ClO-/mol I2)*(1 mol I2 /2 mol S2032- )*(mol S2032- needed to titrate)

I understand that this is the common equation that we usually use. Yet,I'm thinking that will there be any I2 form from combination of I-? ???
under what circumstances will I- combined to form I2?

Thank You.

2I- -> I2 + 2e-
