Chemistry question - How many nitrogen in the problem?
« on: September 06, 2007, 02:09:25 PM »
A 1.50-g sample of nitrous oxide contains 2.05xE22 N2O. How many nitrogen atoms are in the sample? How many nitrogen atoms are in 1.00-g of nitrous oxide?

I have attempted this problem in many ways and they never equal the answer that is provided in the back of the book. I have tried multiplying, dividing, even adding and none have worked. There is no real example in my text book that tells on how to do such a problem.
Thanks

How many nitrogens are in one molecule of N2O?

How many nitrogens are in six molecules of N2O?

So, how many nitrogens are in 2.05 x 1022 molecules of N2O?

If I take three apples and remove one how many do I have? Two, because I have removed one third of the apples, and have two thirds of three left, right?

You know how many N atoms are in 1.5 of nitrous oxide, so if you take away 0.5 g, to leave you with 1 g of nitrous oxide, you have removed one third of the nitrous oxide (and with that one third of the nitrogen), so how many atoms do you have left?

You already have how many molecules of N2O you have. How many Nitrogen atoms are in one molecules of N2O? How many in 2.052 x 1022?

Same for a gram.

*edit* For some reason it did not show Dans response until I replied..?
