water soluable carbodiimide at pH above 8.0

I detected some biological activity of water soluble carbodiimide (EDC or EDAC) at pH values near or above 8.0. I do not think that this is cross-linking via amine or carboxyl groups. What kind of chemical activity can be expected from EDAC at these pH?
Thanks a lot in advance.

why don't you think cross-linking can occur under aqueous basic conditions? EDAC cross-linking ability is optimized between pH 4.0 and 6.0, but I think it can be catalyzed in other conditions
