« on: November 22, 2007, 02:56:44 PM »
Hey everyone , i'm new here and i have a big problem .. i need your helps to solve it ...
we're designing a process of production SO2 from elemental S.

The problem is , we want to designt a reactor. But we dont have the reaction velocity value (Ra) , how can i find it , can you help me ?

Hello Arifcangunal,

I am guessing that your reaction is

S6 + O2 => S6O
S6O + O2 => Sn + SO2

or..is this by some other method?

Could you please include the units for your reaction velocity value?  That would help.

Sincerely,

Eugene

Why you use S6 - most sulfur is S

Hi, i'm also new here. How is the SO2 production ?

Currently, I'm doing a research which demanding pure SO2.
Instead of purchasing SO2 gas in cylinder, my prof told me to produce it on my own.

Is it true that I would get SO2 gas by only burning sulfur ?

Thanks before.

FeS2 + O2 = Fe2O3 + SO2
H2S + O2 = SO2 + H2O

Thanks for the advices.

Those reactions true produces SO2 gas.

The next thing is, how would you measure the purity of it?

Cu + hot H2SO4
Of course , but in lab, not in industry -
in industry Cu2S + O2
