F2 IUPAC Name
« on: October 02, 2007, 04:34:20 AM »
Hello, I'm trying to finish some work at 2am so I wanted to make sure I understand about naming elements.  I know how to name such as Ti4Si3, or AgSn5 but when naming just F2 would I just use Di and the name for F, Fluorine?  So F2 would be difluorine?

Just fluorine. However, you are naming compounds, not elements.

F2 is regarded as a diatomic element.

My mistake, I have misread the original question. Thanks for your clarification.
