Considering the nucleophilicities of the species listed, which of the following is a correct ranking?

 a. Methanol (weakest) < hydroxide ion < acetate ion (strongest)

 b. Methanol (weakest) < acetate ion < hydroxide ion (strongest)

 c. Acetate ion (weakest) < water < hydroxide ion (strongest)

 d. Acetate ion (weakest) < hydroxide ion < water (strongest)

Nucleophilicity and basicity are very similar properties in that species that are nucleophiles are usually also bases

I am thinking C....Am I right? ;D

Anions are better nucleophiles than nuetral reagents, so C is out.
The answer is b).
