Hey guys, new here, not exactly a chemist but its always something iv been interested in, iv got a question im not sure how to ask so im just gonna put it in simple terms I understand.

If one were to take lye and an acid and make soup from them would it be ingestible at a neutral ph?

I mean I know anything on either side of the scale can be poisonous but if you neutralized them would it still be dangerous?

If you used the correct acid and base yes.

HCl (acid) + NaOH (base) gives you H2O (water) + NaCl (table salt).
So yes, it would be fine to digest.


However, if you used other acids and bases, even though you can neutralize the acid or base, the other part (like NaCl in the base above) are not so pleasant to the body.
