Aluminum Nitrate Calculations
« on: October 26, 2007, 12:27:45 PM »
I need a 1M solution of aluminum nitrate anhydrous (213 g/mol), we only had aluminum nitrate nonahydrate (375.13 g/mol) available. Therefore I used 213g of the nonhydrate and diluted it upto 1L. I'd like to figure out the molarity of that solution reverting back to the anhydrous compound.

You can work out the molarity of your solution in the normal way.

concentration (mol/L) = amount (mol) / volume (L)

where: amount (mol) = mass (g) / molecular mass (g/mol)

So based on the mass of nonahydrate you added, what is the molarity of your AlNO3 solution?

Sounds like a homework to me, just replace "I" with "Chemist in the lab"...

Dan, what is aluminum nitrate formula? ;)
