Quick Stoichiometry *delete me*
« on: October 21, 2007, 09:39:17 PM »
"Suppose you tried to combine 42.00g of magnesium with 45.00g of oxygen gas. How much magnesium oxide would be formed? Would there be magnesium or oxygen left over? Which element and how much?"

Kinda stumped on this one.. primarily because I have no idea how to do it  ???

42g Mg * 1 mole/ 24.31 grams *2 mol Mg/2mol MgO * 40.30grams/mole MgO = grams of MgO

2Mg + O2 > 2MgO
This is a combustion reaction. I didn't complete the problem, but most likely there will be an excess of O2.
