insecticides - harmful to humans
« on: November 07, 2007, 09:37:08 PM »
Hi Folks,

I don't know if I'm posting this on the right board, or if anyone here can help me. I'm thinking what I need to know is a chemical matter, and so I came here.

In the past few months I found out the building I live in was infested with Fleas. I had a real lot of them in my 1 bedroom apt. Except for my small kitchen and bathroom the whole apt is rugged. I sprayed 3 cans of Raid Flea killer on to the rugs, and I still had fleas. The landlord then sent down an unlicensed exterminator who sprayed another can of bug killer into the rugs. It still didn't kill all the fleas. Finally the exterminator gave me 2 cans of insecticide Bomb to set off in the apt. This is the stuff where you have to get out for 12 to 24 hours. I did. When I came back I opened the 2 windows but I can still feel this stuff in my throat. In fact I have become sick since all this bug killer was sprayed. So my question is what happens to all this insecticide that gets sprayed into the rugs? It doesn't just go away, does it? I have a collage degree, but I wasn't that good at the natural sciences, but I think I can understand it if someone could explain this to me. I think the insecticide must get into the air and I'm inhaling it. Am I right? Can anyone here help me?

Jack

Have a licensed exterminator come and then have your carpets professionally cleaned.  I would never spray any insecticide onto carpet as it will never evaporate completely, and as it evaporates you are inhaling it which is toxic but not a case of emergency.  I personally would not live in your apartment until you fix the problem and clean your carpets.
