hi
macconkey agar is selective and differential
selective this means that it allow the growth of some bacteria and inhibit the growth of others

differential, means that it can distinguish the type of bacteria according to pattern of growth

so macconkey agar is selective for enteric bacteria
and differentiate them according to fermentation of lactose
