Phosphate Precipitation using Calcium Hydroxide?
« on: December 05, 2007, 08:21:19 PM »
hello all,

I'm curious if PO4 can really be precipitated in seawater using calcium hydroxide. Any truth to this?

thanks very much. :)

Calcium phosphate has a very low water solubility, so you would be able to precipitate out calcium phosphate from an aqueous solution containing phosphate ions using calcium hydroxide.

Seawater is a complex mixture though, so depending on what is in there you could get other compounds precipitating out as well as the calcium phosphate.

CaHPO4 is also insoluble.
