although i have studied chemistry i have never heard of FTIR of lycopene.

You're just going to see conjugated dienes and C-H stretching, nothing fancy. Maybe you'll see the vicinal C-H stretch, that would be a good sign.

i found it --- i knew something was wrong with the results i got. no sp2 stretch <-- it was ftir of hexane lol
