Acids and Bases
« on: December 24, 2007, 01:49:17 PM »
2.75g of MgO is added to 70mL of 2.40mol/L HNO3. Is the solution that results from the reaaction acidic or basic? What is the concentration of the ion that is responsible for the character of the solution?

n1 = 2.75g/40.31g/mol = 0.06822mol

n2 = 0.07L x 2.40mol/L = 0.168mol

n = n2-n1
   = 0.168mol - 0.06822mol
   = 0.09978mol

C = n2 - n1
       0.07L
   =1.425mol/L

Start with the reaction equation. Part of your work is correct, part is off.

Which one is the reaction eqation? And which ones are right?
