Non-toxic, soluble solutions for isotretinoin preparation?
« on: January 10, 2008, 01:52:04 AM »
Hey all,

Relatively simply question for you: We've been workinng with certain retinoids in class recently, but only in powder format. To be specific, isotretinoin, the substance off which Accutane is based, for acne sufferers.

Say I wished to prepare a liquid sample of isotretinoin for use in the experiments, at roughly 20-30 mg/mL. What would be the best solution with which to do this?

I've heard that ethyl acetate is a possibility, as it is non-toxic.

(Yes, I know isotretinoin can be harmful if ingested, also!  ;)  )

Sorry, but I for one don't understand your question:

Your current experiment, on the dry powder, is what?  Particle sizing?  Something else?  What is the discipline you typically work in, so someone of the same one can recognize it, and jump in?

Again, what is your application?  You seem to be very interested in non-toxicity, so you intend for someone? (something?) to ingest it?  Or do you intend to inject it?  You're not trying to just dissolve it for HPLC injection, I have to guess?

At high concentrations and/or large amounts it is toxic.

The question remains -- your specific application?  We tend to shy away, on these boards, from giving people information to use for self-medication.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
