Dear
Rosetta;
It is quite difficult to give you an “adequate” answer for your “UV-Solvent” problem, if you can not narrow your question, because under the names: “
Solvatochromic”, “
Solvatochromic Shifts”, “
Solvatochromism”, (etc.) exists a collection of various effects and influences.
Only a few examples:
pH, “
Tautomerism”, “
Metamerism”, “
л – л* shift”, “
n – л* shift”, “
σ – σ* shift”, and mixtures of all, etc.
You may find some information about if you search on the NET for the terms I gave you in my first sentence.
There exists also some thumb rules, if you know about the polarity of the “
Ground state” and the “
Exited state” of your molecule of interest, – but that are only “
thumb rules”.
For a very few examples of such effects I have pictures/spectra (qualitative), if you are interested in.
About UV/Vis Spectroscopy you can find a Lot on the NET of quite a number of universities, including some calculation examples (and Quiz).
Some, also some more rare answers you may find on:
I hope it gives you at least an Idea (also where to search).
Good Luck!
