Yay, it worked

Organic chem on a micro scale level is such a pain. Products are so hard to get if you are not careful.
Today in the bromination of acetanilide, i was able to isolate the product. All of last semesters experiments were sub par but this time i isolated with a reasonable amount of loss.

The thing i hate about microscale is you begin with too little (think microliters) and the product is always too small. it's always getting lost on the sides of the test tubes and whatnot.

At my university, the organic lab is underfunded even though the gen chem was rebuilt with better facilities. We don't even have brushes or tweezers to get the spin vanes out.  Oh, what a country! Alas it could be worse...

Organic Chemistry is 10% synthesis and 150% separation techniques. You will never have all the best tools and equipment to do the separation you want in the easiest and fastest manner. I would say this is a good introduction to the organic chemists life.
