I apologize in advance is this is not the correct forum for my question. 

I am trying to work out identifying the following formula:

Z-Ile-Glu(OtBu)-Ala-Leu-CHO

I have down: N-benzyloxycarbonyl-isoleucyl-γ-t-butyl-glutamyl-alanyl-leucinal

Is this correct?

Where can I look up info on these individual chemical names?

Calpains and cathepsins are a diverse set of cellular protein digesting enzymes.  This molecule is an inhibitor, for R&D use -- presumably to try to learn what these proteases do.  Although these classes of proteases are known to play a role in diverse human diseases, this molecule is not likely a safe therapeutic.

Yes, absolutely.  I am interested in the study and function of the chemical/peptide.  Are you able to elaborate on why or how the molecule would potentially not be a safe therapeutic in vivo?

I think Arkcon can give you more insight into this than I can...

Peptides are way out of my area of expertise....I am an Inorganic Chemist....you would be far better off asking someone who works with them....

You can try www.sepsci.com...ask Chris Pohl...he does proteomics, proteins, peptides, RNA, DNA, Bio-LC, etc....The little I do know I have learned there....

Further to this discussion - Does anyone know if any of the chemicals mentioned in the formula I stated above are lipophilic or bind strongly to plasma proteins?

I am particularly interested in trying to determine how long the chemical will be available in vivo for exerting its therapeutic or toxic effects.

The first linked document, the MSDS, lists the company that sells it, who may have application notes, and references to peer-reviewed journals that discuss the use. 

If you have the technical skill, and professional knowledge to make safe and logical conclusions, then you should have access to to the information, all by yourself.  If not B, then not A.

I have no intent on self medicating with this chemical I am more interested in the study, mode of action and R&D potential of this chemical for treating diseases.

Sorry, I do not have professional knowledge and this is why I came here to try and learn more about this chemical and its mode of action.

Go to the university library and read the references.  If you can't understand what's happening in the references, read the references in those references, until you do understand, or check their references, etc..

There is no simple, short answer for the mode of action of these peptides, and their use and applications.
