Paroxetine synthesis starting from catechol
« on: February 05, 2008, 05:31:30 PM »
Dear Sir/Ma'am

We've figured out how to synthesise benzodioxole from catechol then formylating it by Vilsmeier Reaction

-workup info needed for piperonyl aldehyde
-how to set up the -O- bridge between piperonyl alcohol and piperidine
-how to atach Fluorophenyl group to the piperidine???

Fluoro group withdraws electrons the most powerfully than any other atom and it orientates to the -meta position (are these right???) So how can it be attached to the piperidine???

Nobody has an idea???

I propose this route

Catechol => 1,3 Benzodioxole => Piperonyl Aldehyde* => Piperonyl Alcohol =>  +Attach Piperonyl Halide* => Attach 1-Chloro, 4-Fluorobenzene*

The places marked with a (*) sign needs the info provided above!!!

Thanx!!!
