how to test for unknown acids
« on: March 10, 2008, 05:20:09 AM »
hi i have an assignment to do for school and im struggling to find any comprehensive information on the net.
we have to test unknown solutions to decide whether they are a certain, cation, anion or acid
so far i know how to test for cations, and most of the anions,
i am having trouble with the acids

how do u test for hydroxide?
and how do u test for acids
most likely
hydrochloric
sulfuric
and nitric???

thanks

Anion + pH or cation + pH.

If you khave found Cl- anion and you know solution is acidic - you most likely have a hydrochloric acid.
