State Symbols (soon please)
« on: March 19, 2008, 06:03:51 PM »
I need to know the state symbols for the following equation. Can anyone figure them out? I need them tonight.

HNO3(aq) + NaHCO3(?) = NaNO3(?) + H2O(l?) + CO2(g i assume)

Well, filling in the state of those compounds just requires you to know what they are.  You're kinda sure of

Quote
   H2O(l?) + CO2(g i assume)

And you know,

Quote
HNO3(aq)

Can't you guess the others?

I guess maybe the NAHCO3 would be solid because it was probably powder, but I don't know how to figure out the NaNO3 at all.

What does (aq) mean?  And I want more than a one word answer.  That is, define the word after you give it. ;)

you're making me work for this one.
aqueous, present as ions in a solution?
the NaNO3 should be aqueous then.
wait that would mean the acid was in water also. is this equation balanced right?

There you go.  And you figured it out yourself.  We make everyone work for the answer 'round here, they get better results that way.  Have a snack on me.

Unless a noob just gives the answer away, sometimes they do that.  When a noob does that, the poster comes back again and again for more freebies -- and sooner or later, even the noobs stop giving it away.
