Sulfonyl Chloride/Sulfonic Acid TLC Stain
« on: March 22, 2008, 12:36:56 PM »
I am not sure whether sulfonyl chlorides are stable to silica or whether they are hydrolyzed to the sulfonic acid like acid chlorides are, but my PI asked me to look for a recipe for a sulfonyl chloride TLC stain.  He said that it had potassium iodide in either acetone or methanol as the solvent (I forgot which) and he said that it should make the sulfonyl chloride spot turn brown.  Is anybody familiar with that TLC stain and knows the recipe?
